Also known as The Ripper, the bass was designed by Bruce Bolen (then at Gibson, now at Fender) and he asked Bill and I to write a tune that I could solo on to exploit the sound of the new bass. We didn't have that many funky songs so I wrote the Bass-Meant melody over a groove that I knew drummer Tommy Gordon could kill. Bill arranged the horns and Bolen joined in on some great rhythm guitar stuff. Sorry the recording isn't better but they used really cheap vinyl to produce this marketing tool. Arguably the funkiest song Chase ever recorded. Enjoy it and let me know what you think. dartanyan@dartanyan.com Wed, 28 Oct 2009 20:05:00 -0800 http://dartanyan.com/podcast-AVmedia/Bass-Meant.mp3 The Gibson guitar company asked me to endorse their then-newly designed bass guitar the L9-S.
