Dig Mose Allison man. That’s the cool guy on the left in the shot above. Pianist and songwriter, Mose has been in the business for 60+ years. At 81, he’s lost nothing and gained even more wisdom, resourcefulness and the confidence one whose been doing his thing for so long can have.
Mose (with Bill Douglass on Bass on right above and drummer Steve Magadini (I pray I have his name spelled right) were featured at Randall Kline’s increasingly relevant SF Jazz series in early September.
As I near the anniversary of yet another personal circuit of the sun (that’s a birthday to some of you) I am thankful beyond these cheap words for the opportunity to spend my life working with this mysterious force called music.
One of the real bright lights has been my work with students. Starting with my own two dear youngsters, I discovered that teaching is almost as fun as learning. This has led me to a dual career as an audio artist and a teacher of young men and women for that last 30 years.
Marin County has been my home for the last 20 years and lately, the young ‘uns around here have been really tearing up the place with some great music.
In celebration of my 20 years here in Marin I’ll be posting information about bright, young musicians that are revitalizing our already bountiful Marin music scene.
I’m off to Iowa for the weekend for a set of concerts with my dear friend and fellow Iowa Blues Hall of Fame musicans Ron Dewitte, guitar, Sam Salomone, Hammond organ, and Steven Hayes, drums. We’re playing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and after the floods there over the summer, there are a lot of blues to heal over there. Until I get back, dig on these wonderful folks..
